Honest answers to the questions people actually ask

Getting started

Setting up and inviting your caregiver

Not to begin with. You can start entirely on your own — log hours and close months privately with no caregiver involved. When you're ready to share access, you invite them by email or link and they get their own view of the shared record. Many families use Mayle on their own for the first few weeks before inviting their caregiver.
About five minutes. Add your caregiver's details, set their base salary and overtime rate, and you're ready to start logging. Inviting your caregiver is one extra step — send them a link and they join from their own device. No installation required on either side.
Yes, on Premium. You can add multiple caregivers and babysitters — log who worked, when, for how long, and what you paid. Review your total monthly childcare spend across everyone at a glance. The free plan covers one caregiver and hours logging only.

Using Mayle on your phone

Mayle is a web app — here's how to use it like a native app

Not right now. Mayle is a mobile-first web app — it runs in your browser and is designed to feel and work like a native app on any device. You can use it on your phone, tablet, or desktop without installing anything. If Mayle gains the traction we're hoping for, a native app will follow.
You can save Mayle to your iPhone home screen so it opens just like an app — full screen, no browser chrome. You need to use Safari for this (Chrome on iPhone won't offer the option).
On iPhone — Safari
1Open Mayle in Safari on your iPhone.
2Tap the Share button — the square with an arrow pointing up, at the bottom of the screen.
3Scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen." If you don't see it, tap "Edit Actions" at the bottom of the list and add it.
4Confirm the name and tap Add. The Mayle icon will appear on your home screen.
On Android, use Chrome. The steps below work on most Android phones.
On Android — Chrome
1Open Mayle in Chrome on your Android device.
2Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of the browser.
3Tap "Add to Home screen" (or "Install app" if it appears — that gives a richer app-like experience).
4Confirm the name and tap Add. The icon will appear on your home screen.

The trial and billing

How the 30-day trial works

No. Your first 30 days are completely free with no payment information required. At the end of your trial, you'll be asked to subscribe to keep the full product — or your account moves to the free plan automatically.
Your account moves to the free plan. You can still log hours for one caregiver and view all your existing records — nothing disappears. Expense tracking, caregiver shared access, the approval workflow, and automated monthly summaries require Premium.
$9/month, or $24/quarter and $84/year if you'd rather pay less often. All Premium options include the full product — there are no hidden tiers or feature limits.
Yes. No contracts, no cancellation fees. If you cancel Premium, your account returns to the free plan and your records remain visible. You can export everything before you go.

The approval workflow

How both sides review and agree

Both sides can log entries on Premium. Your caregiver can add overtime shifts or expenses directly, which then appear in the shared record for you to review and approve — or flag for discussion. You're always in control of what gets included in the final monthly total.
Either side can decline or flag an entry before it's included in the monthly total. Mayle makes sure you have the conversation before payday rather than after it. Nothing gets approved without both sides agreeing.
They see the shared workspace — hours, expenses, approvals, and the monthly summary. They don't see anything from your wider account or any personal information beyond what's directly relevant to their pay.

Payroll and tax

What Mayle does — and doesn't — handle

No — and that's intentional. Mayle is a pay record, not a payroll service. We don't process payments, calculate tax, or file anything on your behalf.

For payroll tax filing: Services like HomePay or GTM Payroll handle household employer tax well. What they don't do is give both sides a shared, agreed record of what was worked and what's owed before money changes hands — that's what Mayle is for. The two complement each other rather than compete.

Privacy and data

Who sees what — and what happens to your data

Your account and pay records are private to you. Your caregiver only sees the shared workspace — nothing from your broader account. We don't sell personal data, share it with advertisers, or use it for any purpose other than running Mayle.
Yes, on any plan at any time. Your data is always yours — it doesn't disappear if you cancel or stop subscribing.
All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Mayle never stores payment card details — billing is handled by Stripe. If you have specific security questions, reach out and we'll answer directly.
